To
address the need for greater cross-cultural understanding and
mutual respect between the various peoples of the world, The
World & I Online has launched a World Gallery, presenting a
dazzling array of thousands of pictures of world cultures.
Multimedia presentations allow students to visually explore
various countries, as well as some of the world’s greatest
heritage sites, including Angkor Wat, the Taj Mahal and the
Hagia Sophia. The World Gallery and Global Culture Studies pages
have also been integrated with one another, allowing easy access
to visual and written resources for each country. In order to
navigate to the World Gallery page, click the Gallery icon in
the center of the WorldandISchool.com homepage.
Images - On the homepage, click on the World Gallery link
at the center of the page. To view images for each country,
click on one of the country names listed on the left-hand side.
You will also notice that the right-hand side of the page
features Country Highlights, which are randomly selected
countries that change each time the page is reloaded. Each
country’s gallery features a link to the corresponding Global
Culture Studies page, featuring demographics of that country and
further reading. Click on the Demographics and Recommended
Reading link at the top of a country’s image gallery to be taken
to the Global Culture Studies page. Each country photo gallery
also has a slideshow function that allows you to view the entire
collection of photographs in succession, which can be activated
via the icon in the top right-hand corner of the gallery. You
can also print photographs by double clicking on the small
thumbnail in the country gallery, and then double clicking on
the larger image and clicking on Print above the image.
Multimedia presentations - The multimedia presentations
are located at the main page of the World Gallery. We are
continually adding to our collection in order to provide diverse
views of cultural sites all over the world. These presentations
can be enjoyed on PCs and Macs, using Mozilla Firefox, Internet
Explorer, Netscape, and Safari. Depending on your computer, you
may experience pausing during the first viewing of any
slideshow, but thereafter it will run uninterrupted. Click on
the photo icon in order to run the presentation. We also offer
supporting article and teacher’s lesson plan to accompany each
multimedia presentation, making it a complete culture study
package to use in the classroom. To view the associated articles
or teacher lesson plan, click on one of the links below the
photo icon.
Share Your World - Whether you have pictures showing the
beautiful culture of your own country or other places you have
visited, take part in a virtual cultural exchange by having your
images presented for the world to see in our World Gallery. At
the bottom of the main World Gallery page, click the Share Your
World link and follow the on-screen instructions to submit your
images. There are several ways to submit your images:
